Reverend Michael R. Scudder
Pastor
Scudder was born September 6, 1959 in Richmond, IN. He is the only son,
and middle child, of Max R. (+) and Carol L. Scudder. Pastor’s family
moved to Sturgis, MI when he was 1 year old and lived there until he
graduated from Sturgis High School in June 1977. On August 23, 1977 Pastor
Scudder reported for active duty in the U. S. Air Force. He served
stations in Southern California, the Philippines, Northern California and
Virginia. He was honorably discharged in October 1985 and began his
college education at St. John’s College in Winfield, KS in January 1986.
With the closing of St. John’s that spring Pastor transferred to Concordia
College in Ann Arbor, MI, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Biblical Languages in May 1990. In September 1990 Pastor began his
seminary studies at Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, IN. He
served his vicarage (internship) year at First Lutheran Church in Boston,
MA and graduated from the seminary in May 1994. His first call was to
serve as associate pastor at Zion Lutheran Church in Tomball, TX.
Before
moving to Texas, the Lord, in His wisdom, saw fit to bless Pastor Scudder
with the hand of Sara Loppnow in marriage. God has blessed them with 12
wonderful years and 2 very angelic boys, Matthew – 10 and Benjamin – 3.
Matthew was born while the Scudders were in Texas (and he knows this!).
The family moved to Marshalltown, IA in October 1997 where Pastor served
as associate pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church until October 1999 when he
accepted the Lord’s call to serve in the admissions office at Concordia
Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, IN. Benjamin was born while the
Scudders were in Ft. Wayne.
In
January 2006, God led the people of Faith Lutheran – Mt. Pleasant to
extend a call to Pastor Scudder to be Christ’s undershepherd in that
place. Pastor Scudder began his work here with his installation on June
18, 2006.
Pastor’s hobbies include spending time with his family, hunting, fishing,
tinkering, and reading.
